Translation Firm completes FCO information project

The Translation People has completed the translation and typesetting of high-profile communications materials for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO).

The firm won the contract to translate six updated versions of the FCO’s ‘Support for British Nationals Abroad’ information leaflets.

These popular 32-page A4 guides – also available in summary versions – provide vital information about what to do in cases of illness or disaster when travelling internationally, and explain how British Embassies overseas can help

The Translation People organised the translation and typesetting of new versions of the guides, which were written in English, into six commonly-spoken languages in the UK: Welsh, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu and Traditional Chinese.

The PDF format guides are now available to download from the FCO website: www.fco.gov.uk/travel/publications.

Alan White, Manager of The Translation People’s Manchester office, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to work on a frontline communications project of benefit to millions of UK citizens.”

“It was also a chance to demonstrate our ability to provide a comprehensive service – ensuring that the new information was not only accurately translated but that the foreign language versions looked as good as the original English.”

“The previous artwork files were not available so the text had to be rekeyed and the new translated text inserted alongside it, all using appropriate fonts for the target language.”

This latest government contract places The Translation People at the forefront of translation services in the UK. The company has also worked for the Department for Work and Pensions. For more information, please contact:
